Cork City's viral Nigerian trialist thanks Conor McGregor as club move forward with visa process

An African footballer has secured a trial with Cork City after a Twitter campaign reached over 50,000 people, and he has thanked Conor McGregor for inspiring him.

Nigerian Richard Allison was told he could be given a chance at the Irish side if he got 50,000 retweets, and within a week he had hit his target

And the young soccer player told Cork Beo that he has God and Conor McGregor to thank for what looks like his first trial with a club in Europe.

He said: "I’ve always loved the club because I loved Conor McGregor, I googled a lot about him and that was how I found out about Cork City FC - a club in Ireland. And they responded to me".

Allison revealed that he will be looking to compete with the likes of Conor McCormack in the Rebels back-line, saying: "I can play either right back or left back".

He declined to tell Cork Beo his age or go into details about his career so far, beyond saying he is obsessed with football and believes he can do a great job for Cork City.

And he claimed that he has had 'great' support for the move in Nigeria, adding: "The response back home here has been great, everyone back home in Nigeria here have really supported me.

"It’s all positive down here in Nigeria!"
