Cork City extend Joseph Olowu loan for rest of the season

Joseph Olowu will remain with Cork City for the rest of the season after his loan from Arsenal was extended.

The 20-year-old centre-half joined the Leesiders from the Gunners last February was due to return to the Premier League club in June.

But a deal has been struck to keep him with Cork.

“I was enjoying my time at the club when the season was suspended," said Olowu.

"Everyone made me feel very welcome at the club, and I felt I was settling in well.

"It has been a frustrating few months, but I'm very pleased that this is all sorted and I can focus on getting back on the pitch with the club for the rest of the season.”

City boss Neale Fenn believes Olowu was hitting his stride when the lockdown occurred in March.

“Joseph came in quite late, but he was one of our better performers in the opening games of the season," said Fenn.

"We were pleased with how he was doing and felt he was progressing well but, as everyone knows, everything then ground to a halt.

"We’ve had a number of conversations with Arsenal during the shut-down, and they were very pleased with how he had been doing here, so they were happy for him to stay and try to continue the progress he had made in those first few games".
