Cork City 0 Shamrock Rovers 3: Aaron Greene brace helps Hoops to comfortable win

A first half brace from striker Aaron Greene helped leaders Shamrock Rovers to a comfortable and routine away win over Cork City at Turner’s Cross yesterday.

Almost identical headed goals from the Hoops dangerman in the 17th and 43rd minutes eased the Dubliners eight points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League ahead of their big European clash with Italian giants, AC Milan at Tallaght Stadium on  Thursday.

Substitute Neil Farrugia added the third in the last minute to complete the rout.

They were well executed goals from Stephen Bradley’s point of view but they were soft concessions from Cork’s.

Bradley said afterwards: “All the talk was of Milan but this was our big game, make no mis- take about it. We didn’t talk about anything else bar Cork and we knew it would take a big performance to win at Turner’s Cross.

“We picked up hard won points in Dublin derbies too and we have a good pointstally now. We knew the Cork game was an im- portant one for us and I am delighted with the outcome.

“We didn’t allow Cork to get a foothold and we dominated. You have to be careful with Cork because if you allow them into the game, they can grow in confidence. We imposed ourselves from the first minute and its paid dividends.

“We might have won by more but the most pleasing thing for me is the clean sheet ahead of Milan.”
