Cork City 0-1 Bohemians: Andre Wright piles more misery on the Rebels

Andre Wright was in the right place at the right time as Bohs returned to winning ways after the Covid-19 lockdown.

The players all took the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement before kick-off but it was the worst possible start for Cork City as Bohs made the breakthrough.

Danny Grant’s initial shot came back off the far post and there was front man Wright in the right spot to shoot the loose ball low past Mark McNulty at the St Anne’s end.

It was the perfect start for the Gypsies against a Cork team which had scored just one goal and conceded 11 against since the season’s closure back in March.

The home side were also missing club captain, Gearoid Morrissey, Conor Davis and Charlie Fleming through injury.

Deshane Dalling had a 12th minute effort for City saved by Stephen McGuinness in what was relegation-threatened Cork’s only worthwhile first half goal chance.

Midfielder Dawson Devoy fired over for Bohs’ mid-way through before City’s Joseph Olowu was booked by referee Sean Grant after 32 minutes.

On the restart, Keith Long’s side continued to enjoy the bulk of the possession and looked the more likely to add to their tally as Wright chipped just wide of the target nearing the hour mark.

Andy Lyons was booked for a ‘dive’ in the box before Danny Grant curled a shot just wide and, at the other end, Cian Murphy headed Daire O’Connor’s cross just over the crossbar.
