Cork City 0-0 Sligo Rovers: Leesiders miserable run continues at Turner’s Cross

Cork City are still shackled by their worst run of form since manager John Caulfield arrived at Turner’s Cross five years ago.

City gleaned just one point from a possible 15 and have won at home just the once against Bohemians all season as this drab and lacklustre goalless draw with Sligo Rovers failed to improve the overall situation on Leeside.

Cork made two changes with skipper Karl Sheppard back from injury and Garry Comerford back from suspension after missing the Waterford game while a groin strain forced Gearoid Morrissey out along with young Darragh Crowley.

Ronan Coughlan and Sean McLoughlin had early chances before Mark McNulty saved from Coughlan, one of two ex-Cork City players in the Sligo colours, the other being Johnny Dunleavy at right-back.

Graham Cummins had two chances for the home side firing a left-footed drive over on 23 minutes and then glancing a header from Garry Comerford’s free kick over the bar again.

The last action of the first half had Sligo’s keeper Mitchell Beeney saving easily over his head from another Cummins header while sub Darragh Rainsford was denied a winner by Beeney ten minutes from the end of a best forgotten tie.
