Cork 4-19 Laois 1-15: Brian Hurley breaks Laois' heart with devastating display

Brian Hurley broke Laois’ heart with a devastating display at full-forward which netted 2-4.

And his Castlehaven clubmate Mark Collins turned the screw even further, hitting 1-8 in a powerful performances as the Rebels marched into the Super 8s just months after being relegated to Division 3.

The game was competitive until Cork started to get a regular supply into the Castlehaven pair and from there on it was all one-way traffic.

Half-time substitute Paul Kerrigan made an instant impact when his long ball was knocked back by Collins for Hurley to sidefoot the ball to the net.

Liam O’D onovan and Hurley quickly followed with points and then Hurley blasted home his second goal to make it 2-14 to 0-7.

Cork did not stand back and Collins got in for their third goal after 52 minutes as the Laois challenge wilted.

Kingston, who finished with 0-9, landed a couple of frees and a couple from play.

And Martin Scully gave their supporters in the crowd of 6,114 something to cheer about when he found the net after 53 minutes but they were on a damage limitation exercise from a long way out.

Kerrigan added to their misery with Cork’s fourth goal as Laois’ season came to an end.
