Corinthians win women's Copa Libertadores

(Reuters) - Corinthians of Brazil won the women’s Copa Libertadores on Monday after two second-half goals gave them a 2-0 win over domestic rivals Ferroviaria.

The Sao Paulo club had the better of the first half, hitting the woodwork and having a goal disallowed for offside, but it took them until the 73rd minute to break the deadlock, Giovanna Crivelari finishing off a counterattack following a nice pass from Tamires.

Juliete made sure of the victory when she scored with an angled shot a minute from time.

Corinthians scored 16 goals and were unbeaten in all six of the matches they played over the 17 days of the tournament in Ecuador.

It was the eighth time in 11 years that a Brazilian team has taken the title.

Sixteen teams from 10 South American countries competed for the region's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League, with Colombian club America beating Cerro Porteno of Paraguay 3-1 earlier in the night to take third place.
