Corinne on her way to Parliament opening, then lunch with Her Majesty, Prince Charles and Camilla

A “local hero” from Renfrewshire will be a star guest when the Queen and Prince Charles officially open the new session of the Scottish Parliament.

Corinne Hutton, 51, was nominated to attend the ceremony on October 2 by Scottish Conservative MSP Russell Findlay.

Corinne founded the Finding Your Feet charity after receiving a double hand transplant two years ago.

The mum, from Lochwinnoch, said: “I was absolutely delighted when Russell invited me to the Holyrood opening ceremony next month.

“It will be an honour to attend the reception with the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla.

“While I am truly flattered to be recognised in this way, there is a big team of us at Finding Your Feet — I’m just front of house while they do all the hard graft.”

This week Corinne welcomed the West Scotland MSP to Finding Your Feet’s HQ in Paisley’s St James House.

The charity, which supports amputees and their families, has taken over the entire building as part of an ambitious expansion plan.

Findlay said: “I previously worked as a journalist at STV News where chief reporter Sharon Frew produced a series of reports about Corinne’s extraordinary and inspirational journey.

“She lost her hands and feet to sepsis in 2013, which is hard for most of us to even imagine.

“Six years later, she underwent a hand transplant in Leeds. I watched Sharon’s reports in complete awe at this medial miracle and Corinne’s incredibly positive attitude.

“Since then, Corinne founded her charity and, as if that’s not enough, has now taken over this entire landmark building in Paisley.

“During my visit, I was blown away by the enthusiasm and ambition of Corinne and her team

"Other charities will be moving in to the new space and Finding Your Feet is emerging from the pandemic stronger than ever.

“When lockdown began last year, Corinne offered to provide her charity space to the local NHS, which is typical of her public spirited and selfless nature

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving to attend the opening ceremony.”

The Royal opening ceremony takes place after every Scottish Parliament election and all 129 MSPs nominate a local hero to take part.

It commences with the Crown of Scotland being taken down the Royal Mile to parliament. The Queen then addresses MSPs in the chamber.

MSPs and their local heroes will then attend a lunch with the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla.
