Corey Perry gets mocked for being thrown out of Winter Classic after elbowing Ryan Ellis

Less than three minutes into the 2019 NHL Winter Classic, the Dallas Stars’ Corey Perry got ejected for an elbow to the head of the Predators Ryan Ellis.

There’s no controversy over that call. Whether it was intended or not, Perry’s elbow catches Ellis’ head. Perry got a five-minute game misconduct which is an immediate ejection from the game. Watch, as Perry takes what is probably the longest walk of shame back to the locker room.

Stars head coach Rick Bowness, interviewed by NBC’s Pierre McGuire during the game, said the refs made the right call.

“He caught him in the head with the elbow and that’s the right call,” Bowness said.

Of course, Twitter was ruthless in mocking Perry and his history of questionable plays.

As of the end of the first period, Ellis remains out of the game.
