Cordy Glenn was mysteriously absent from Bengals practice Sunday

Cordy Glenn was missing on the practice field for the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.

Normally, a veteran’s day off leading into a preseason game wouldn’t be a big story. Glenn was seen in the locker room but didn’t suit up.

But it’s a little interesting to note the Bengals didn’t have much to say, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic:

Cordy Glenn didn’t show at Sunday’s practice, and any potential injury to a front-line starter exposes the complete lack of depth at offensive tackle. There’s no word on what’s going on with Glenn, but it only shines a brighter line on what should be an area the Bengals could use their depth at other positions to address.

Theories abound. Glenn, obviously, is the tackle the Bengals asked to play guard for the first time since college after drafting Jonah Williams. He’s back at left tackle and played 16 snaps there in the second preseason game, which seemed normal enough.

The unusual happenings around the offensive line lately make this interesting too. Left guard Clint Boling retired for health reasons. Kent Perkins told the team he intends to retire so he got waived. Christian Westerman is currently on an excused list because he left the team and potentially intends to retire.

So at this point, any unexplained absence like Glenn’s smacks a bit odd. Maybe it’s nothing and Glenn is right back out there this week before Thursday’s game, but normalcy simply hasn’t been the case for the line in front of Andy Dalton this offseason.
