Cordy Glenn’s concussion is a crushing development for a hobbled offensive line

Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Cordy Glenn was mysteriously absent from the team’s Sunday practice and the team had little to say about it.

Now we know why. According to Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Glenn reported a concussion after the second preseason game:

“Zac Taylor on LT Cordy Glenn: He has a concussion. He reported a concussion after the last game, so better to keep him inside these couple days as he goes through the protocol. We’re just taking it day-by-day”

Glenn, who came over via trade with Buffalo, started at left tackle last year and was primed to move inside to left guard this season after the team drafted Jonah Williams in the first round.

Once Williams went down, Glenn went back outside and the battle at left guard started after Clint Boling retired. Christian Westerman has since left the team.

Point being, this is a devastating blow for an offensive line that couldn’t afford to suffer another. A concussion means Glenn misses the most important preseason game of the year and won’t suit up in the fourth week, which is bad for him from a reps standpoint and even worse for a team still trying to figure out which five players to start and where.

At left tackle, the Bengals will move forward with Andre Smith, the former right tackle they brought back as an insurance policy.
