Cordy Glenn didn’t suffer regression, Zac Taylor still hopes he’ll play

The Cincinnati Bengals still hope to have left tackle Cordy Glenn return to the field this season despite his extended stay away from football thanks to a concussion suffered in the third week of the preseason.

Head coach Zac Taylor spoke with the media Thursday and Glenn came up naturally, as the left tackle had practiced on a limited basis last week, then nothing so far this week — spurring fears of a setback.

Taylor shot down that idea, per the team’s site:

Not on the field was left tackle Cordy Glenn, in his second month of concussion protocol. Glenn returned to practice last week, but hasn’t been out there this week because he’s been getting checked by an independent neurologist. Head coach Zac Taylor said after Thursday’s practice that there has been no regression and that he still expects Glenn to play some time soon.

That explains at least part of the mystery here, with Jay Morrison of The Athletic noting another:

Either way, the Bengals remain in a holding pattern with Glenn. Last week it seemed like the protocol was almost complete, though how a look from independent neurologists could swing things is hard to say.

The Bengals could certainly use the help as a hobbled Andre Smith struggles on the left side. Glenn won’t fix everything, but the line can’t get much worse than the historically bad performance it offered up Monday night.
