Corbyn warns of lead in lipstick after Brexit in video for Money Saving Expert

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is warning that a post-Brexit Tory trade deal with the US could see lead in lipstick and chlorinated chickens on sale.

Mr Corbyn is expressing concern about the Government's stance on EU withdrawal in a special edition of ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show.

In a video recorded for the live programme being broadcast on Tuesday, Mr Corbyn calls for a customs union with the EU.

The Labour leader states: "If we don't secure a customs union and keep high quality trading standards then we risk major industries and companies abandoning Britain altogether.

DWP Tory apologises to Parliament for making four errors in benefit freeze debate

"That's why Labour, trade unions and businesses are backing a comprehensive customs union and keeping up with high quality standards.

"Some Conservative politicians want to see a new trade deal with the US that would lower our most prized social, environmental and health standards, allowing in things like chlorinated chicken, hormone-fed beef and even lead in lipstick.

"It would open up our NHS to American corporations and wreck our steel industry.

Emmanuel Macron slams UK for holding EU 'hostage' over Brexit

"That's why Labour's alternative plan forms the basis of a better Brexit deal that will support our industries, protect our public services and secure good, well paid jobs as part of our plans to rebuild and transform this country."

Mr Corbyn added that the Government was in "chaos" over Brexit.

"The Conservatives have spent so much time fighting among themselves that they've completely failed to negotiate a good deal for the country.

"Workers and industry are facing huge uncertainty, which means businesses are not investing to create new jobs and some are even cutting jobs as we are seeing in the car industry.

"And when good jobs go that has massive knock-on effects: on other businesses, on high streets and on whole communities."
