Former Mayo All-Ireland winner Cora Staunton is targeting a November return to Australian Rules.
The 11-time All Star broke her leg in three places and also suffered a broken ankle playing in the AFL last May.
Staunton played her second game back from injury on Saturday when her club Carnacon were knocked out of the Connacht SFC after a 4-9 to 2-4 defeat to holders Kilkerrin-Clonberne.
“I am in an intense rehab programme which takes up to six days a week. I am well on schedule. When it first happened they normally say 12 months,” said the 37-year old who is due to return to the Greater Western Sydney Giants next month.
“I always had in the back of my mind that I would get back for the county final, whether that would happen or not. Luckily, I did.
“I am in constant contact with the club. Confidence wouldn’t be very high in the leg right now. It is just over five months since I broke it. I wasn’t as sharp as I’d like.”
