Cops warn scammers in luxury cars flagging down Scots drivers to steal cash

Cops have issued a warning amid a spate of incidents that have seen men in 'luxury cars' flag down Scots drivers as part of a scam.

Police in Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria took to social media explaining they had been hit with 'a number of reports' regarding the fraudsters.

The scammers, who are typically men driving luxury cars with German licence plates, have been flagging down passing motorists.

Once the driver has stopped they ask for money, claiming to have run out of fuel.

They will ask for cash, or request the money is transferred into a bank account.

Cops have warned the men are said to be 'well dressed, very convincing and persistent'.

The fraudsters have even been known to stand in front of cars to make them stop or prevent them from moving off.

Motorists have been urged to call the police immediately if they come across the scammers.

A statement from Police Scotland read: "If you see such behaviour then please don't engage with them and phone Police on 101 or in an emergency 999."
