Cops use PAVA spray on Glasgow thugs who launched hockey stick attack during lockdown 'gathering'

Police were forced to use PAVA spray to control thugs who attacked officers with a broken hokey stick at a 'gathering' in Glasgow.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to an address in the city on May 4 after reports of a gathering inside, breaking coronavirus guidelines.

Cops tried to speak to the home owner, a 26-year-old man, who was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The man and his brother, aged 28, pounced on the officers, pushing one of them before brandishing a broken hockey stick.

In a bid to control the situation, police used PAVA spray on both the brothers.

PAVA spray is a chemical spray that causes severe pain when it comes into contact with the victim's eyes.

They were both arrested and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Three other people at the gathering were handed fixed penalty notices for flouting coronavirus rules.

Police Scotland referred the incident to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).

PIRC ruled that the use of PAVA spray was necessary to 'prevent further injury to the officers and bring the incident to a safe conclusion.'
