Police investigating the tragic death of a newborn baby believe they have found the tragic tot’s mum.
The probe was launched after the baby was discovered by a member of the public in a private garden at 8.50am on Saturday December 11.
The grim discovery was made on Victoria Quadrant in Weston-super-Mare.
The Mirror reported that Avon and Somerset Constabulary said it is currently treating the baby's death as “unexplained.”
Officers described the incident as “very sad and distressing.”
The force had asked the public for any relevant information as it was "extremely concerned" for the mother's welfare.
And they now believe they have found the woman.
Detective chief inspector Mike Buck said: "Earlier today we issued an appeal to locate the mother of a newborn baby, whose body was found in a private garden in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday morning.
"During the course of our enquiries, information has been received which has helped us locate who we believe is the baby's mother.
"This woman has been taken immediately to hospital where she'll receive the expert medical attention and professional support she needs.
"I'd like to thank the entire Weston-super-Mare community for their help and support during what's been a difficult day for all involved."
North Somerset Children’s Services made a direct appeal to the newborn's mum on Saturday, saying it has specially trained professionals who can support her and make sure she gets the medical attention she needs.
