Police will use new surveillance cameras at 15 busy traffic spots in Bangkok from Thursday to catch motorists who switch lanes suddenly, as it violates road rules and is a cause of frequent road accidents.
Fifteen cameras are being installed to catch traffic violators, particularly those who abruptly change lanes near intersections, flyovers, bridges and underpasses. Installations will be completed by the month's end, deputy Traffic Police Division chief Pol Col Kitti Ariyanon said yesterday.
Areas to come under the camera surveillance include the in-bound lanes on Din Daeng Road at the Sam Liam Din Daeng, and the out-bound and in-bound lanes on Lat Phrao Road at the Ratchada-Lat Phrao intersection.
Busy roads near nine flyovers are also on the surveillance list.
They include out-bound lanes of the Ngam Wong Wan Road at Bang Khen flyover; outbound lanes of Chaeng Watthana Road at the Government Complex flyover; outbound lanes of the Boromratchonnanee Road at the Boromratchonnanee flyover; inbound lanes on Chaeng Watthana Road at the Bang Khen flyover; out-bound lanes on Phetchaburi Road at the Ratchathewi flyover; the outbound lane on Ratchadaphisek Road at the Prachanukun flyover; outbound lanes on Ratchadaphisek Road at the Wong Sawang flyover; outbound lanes on Ratchadaphisek Road at the Rama IV flyover; and outbound lanes on Kalapraphreuk Road at the Kamnan Maen flyover.
The two bridges equipped with the cameras are the Siriraj and Memorial bridges. Cameras will be installed to capture the outbound lanes on the Arun Amarain Road leading to the Sriraj Bridge and the inbound lanes on Prajadhipok Road near the Memorial Bridge.
Police will also keep an eye on the inbound lanes on Ratchadaphisek Road at Huai Khwang underpass.
The cameras will work around the clock to take photos of traffic offences.
