Cops swoop on £160k cannabis farm during raid of Paisley industrial estate

A massive 600-plant cannabis farm has been discovered in an industrial estate in Paisley.

Drug squad cops uncovered the sophisticated cultivation - which has an estimated street value of £160,000 - during a raid in the town’s Scotts Road.

Specialist forensic officers were yesterday scouring the unit for clues as to who may be behind the illegal farm.

The cultivation was tucked in a discreet unit within an industrial estate in the Hawkhead area of the town.

It contained specialist lighting and water systems to encourage growth.

Most of the material will be destroyed, with some kept as evidence.

Chief Inspector Jim Cast, area commander for Renfrewshire, said officers are investigating the find and urged anyone with information on who might be behind it to come forward.

He said: “We received information regarding a potential cannabis cultivation within an industrial unit in Scott’s Road, Paisley

“Acting on a drug warrant on Tuesday, officers carried out a search of the property and uncovered a significant number of cannabis plants within.

“We are carrying out enquiries in relation to the seizure to identify who may be responsible for it.”

He added: “If you have any information in relation to drug dealing in your community then we would like to hear from you.

“We will act on any information provided.

“We are determined to rid Renfrewshire of the illegal drugs trade.”

In January, police found hundreds of hash plants in a disused Paisley town centre building.

Around 235 fully-grown shrubs with an estimated street value of more than £140,000 were seized from the High Street building.

Cops swooped on the disused property on the corner of High Street and St Mirren Brae after intelligence led them to the site.

Anyone with information on drug dealing in their community should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
