A dog was rescued from a boiling hot car after police smashed a window to get inside.
GMP was called to the car park of Morrisons in Cheadle Heath at around 2.50pm on Friday following reports of a 'distressed dog'.
It is understood that several calls were made on the store's tannoy system asking the owner to come forward, but when no one did, officers made the decision to force entry to the car - reportedly a white Land Rover - to rescue the pet.
The owner later arrived at the scene, however it is not clear how long had passed when they turned up.
A spokesman for GMP said the incident would be referred to the RSPCA.
"We were called at 2.50pm to Morrisons in Cheadle Heath.
"Officers were notified that there was a distressed dog in a car in the car park.
"Several calls were made in store before officers forced entry to the vehicle.
"The owner later arrived and there will be an RSPCA referral."
Temperatures on Friday hit mid 20s in Greater Manchester as the region prepares for a Bank Holiday heatwave.
