Cops shut down A77 after man dies on busy Kilmarnock road

A busy Scots road was locked down by police after the sudden death of a 39-year-old man.

Officers were called to the scene at the Bellfield Interchange, Kilmarnock, early on Monday morning after the alarm was raised.

They found the body of the man, who had already sadly passed away, but have said that there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

Traffic Scotland warned motorists to avoid the area after both carriageways on the A77 were initially closed with a local diversion in place.

The northbound lanes have since reopened but police remain on the scene.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: “#A77 remains closed S/B at the Bellfield Interchange due to a police incident. N/B has reopened. A local diversion is in place.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police were called around 5.30am on Monday, 8 June, 2020, following the sudden death of a 39-year-old man at the Bellfield Interchange, Kilmarnock.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The A77 road is currently closed southbound.”
