Cops search for hero Glasgow taxi driver who tried to save man's life after horror crash

An hero taxi driver who tried to save a man's life after he was hit by a car in Glasgow is being asked to come forward with information.

The 53-year-old died in the Knightswood area of the city, two weeks ago on Thursday, September 24.

He was hit by a white Audi at around 10.10pm while crossing the busy Great Western Road, near to Cowdenhill Road.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan where he died a short time later.

But police say that a kind-hearted driver of a black Toyota Avensis private hire car had tried to help the man at the scene.

Cops are hunting for the person who hit the man and think the Toyota driver may be able to help.

Sergeant Paul McPherson, Dumbarton Roads Policing Department, said: "Officers have re-visited the scene and spoke to a number of both pedestrians and motorists in the area to try and get more information about the crash.

"We had previously appealed to the driver of the private hire taxi who had stopped to help but left just before police arrived to get in touch.

"Unfortunately, we haven't managed to speak to him yet, so would again ask that he give us a call as his information could prove very helpful to our enquiry.

"If you have dash-cam footage from that night, or any information that may assist our investigation, then please call officers via 101. Please quote reference number 3779 of 24 September 2020 when calling."
