Nakhon Nayok police have decided to indict a suspect in the case of the alleged physical assault of deceased armed forces cadet Pakapong "Moei" Tanyakan.
Police informed the suspect of the charges and will next week forward the case to the attorney of the military court at the 12th Military Circle, chief of Nakhon Nayok police Pol Maj Gen Wattana Yeegeen said. He said this case was not linked to the mysterious death of the cadet.
The physical assault case relates to what happened to Pakapong on Aug 23. The case was filed by the family with police on Dec 19.
Meanwhile, Muang district police are still waiting for the autopsy results to get a medical conclusion on the cause of the death, he said.
The cadet died on Oct 17 last year, a day after he returned to the school after a short break. The academy provided a death certificate indicating he had died of sudden cardiac arrest but gave no more details.
The case drew wide attention after the family, who do not believe that he died of a heart attack, revealed that they secretly removed his body from a cremation ceremony at a temple on Oct 24 to undergo an autopsy at the Central Institute of Forensic Science under the Ministry of Justice.
Pakapong's sister Supicha Tanyakan said she had received a letter informing her about the police decision. Ms Supicha said the family believed there might have been physical assaults as forensic results found traces of bleeding over collar bones, bruises of muscles on the left torso and a broken rib which was "not likely to be caused by CPR".
