Feb. 21--Surveillance video of this week's dognapping on the North Side shows two men, both wearing gray hoodies and dark jackets, strolling up to a silver van, casually getting in and speeding off with seven dogs inside.
The theft occurred Wednesday afternoon outside Urban Out Sitters, a pet daycare center in the 800 block of West Superior Street. The van was located late the next morning about four miles away in the South Loop, the dogs shivering from the cold but otherwise okay.
The video, released by Chicago police, shows the van parked off Superior Street as the two men walk up. One of them opens the driver's door and slips in while the other walks around the front and gets in on the passenger side.
Police said a witness later tried to stop the van and one of the thieves drew a gun and pointed it at him.
The dogs were rescued around 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue after the owner of a salon spotted the van parked on the street. Police said they are still searching for the two men.
Police described the two suspects as black, one wearing a black puffy coat the other one a black jacket.
Joseph Giannini, owner of Urban Out Sitters, could not be reached Friday morning.
