Cops release CCTV images of men after officer injured by firework at Glasgow Republican march

Police want to speak to these two men after an officer was injured by a firework during a Republican march in Glasgow.

The incident happened as Loyalist protesters tried to disrupt the second of two parades in the city's Broomielaw area on September 7 around 4.55pm.

A number of items were thrown by people involved, with 11 arrested, including two teenage boys and a 33-year-old man accused of carrying an offensive weapon.

A similar counter demonstration sparked violent scenes in Govan the weekend before.

CCTV images have now been released of two men cops think will be able to assist with their investigation into the Broomielaw incident.

The first man is described as being around aged in his 30s or 40s, average height, of slim build with short, thinning hair. He is shown in the image wearing a red tracksuit top, grey bottoms and white trainers.

The second man is described as being aged in his 40s, average height, medium build with facial hair. He is shown in the image wearing a blue hooded top with a red stripe, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Ainsley Clark said: "I would appeal to anyone who recognises either of the men pictured or has information which may help us identify them to come forward as soon as possible.

"You can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting Storm reference 1229 of 7th September 2019, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

No trouble or arrests were reported at on Saturday, despite concerns of further violence or counter demonstrations.

Glasgow City Council announced on Thursday, September 19 that the parades could take place despite banning marches the previous week.

Hundreds of people took part in Saturday's events which a  Police Scotland  spokeswoman said "passed without incident" or arrest.

She added no protesters had been identified at any of the four marches either.

The local authority allowed the latest parades after police warned there could be serious disorder if the Pride of Govan Flute Band procession was banned.
