Cops recover ‘diazepam’ pills worth £10,000 after raiding Paisley flat

Cops seized £10,000 worth of suspected diazepam pills during a raid at a Paisley flat.

Thousands of tablets were found in the Renfrew Road property after officers swooped.

It is understood police were led to the stash after a searching a man in the street earlier the same evening.

They stopped him to carry out a check on his vehicle around 5.10pm and allegedly found controlled drugs on him.

Later that night they carried out a search of a flat nearby and uncovered the haul of potentially-deadly diazepam pills with a street value of around £10,000.

The flat was sealed off by officers who carried out a thorough search of the property.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers executed a search warrant under the misuse of drugs act at a property in Renfrew Road, Paisley, on Friday.

“A large quantity of what are believed to be diazepam tablets were seized from the flat.”

She added: “We would urge anyone who has information about drug related activity in their community to report it to police or anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“We will act on your information and investigate fully.”

Diazepam, commonly referred to as Valium, is a minor tranquilliser which is often used alongside other drugs.

It is illegal to possess without a prescription and is a Class-C drug.

A Police Scotland spokesman said a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged drug offences.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident officers arrested a 22-year-old man in Corsebar Road, Paisley, around 5pm on Friday after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a blade.

It is claimed officers spotted the man acting suspiciously and carried out a search during which they allegedly uncovered the weapon.

A force spokeswoman added: “We can confirm a 22 year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with alleged offensive weapon offences. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
