Emergency services race to house fire near Castle Douglas as street locked down

Emergency services have closed down a small village near Castle Douglas after an early morning house fire.

Police Scotland put traffic control measures in place in Crossmichael after the fire service were called to the scene of a blaze at a property just before 4am on Monday January 25.

It is not known if anyone was injured in the incident.

Three appliances were scrambled to the scene, where one remains in attendance.

A Scottish Fire Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted to a house fire in Crossmichael, near Castle Douglas, at 0352 this morning.

"Three appliances attended to deal with the incident. There is currently one appliance left on the scene."

A Police Scotland spokesman said there will be traffic delays and asked motorists to seek an alternative route if possible.
