Police locked down part of the M80 in Falkirk earlier as they dealt with an incident.
Police and ambulance crews were called to a section of the motorway between Bonnybridge and Denny just before 5pm.
The carriageway was closed northbound at Junction 8 as police responded to reports of concern for a person.
Traffic was held at the scene and drivers were asked to take an alternative route.
Witnesses say a number of emergency service vehicles attended.
The person was passed into the care of the ambulance service and the road re-opened around 5.40pm.
Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
