Cops have raced to a “four-vehicle” smash on the Edinburgh City Bypass.
One lane has been shut down after the crash as police remain at the scene this evening.
It’s understood the incident happened shortly before 5pm tonight.
The collision has sparked huge tailbacks on the A720 as commuters try to dash home in rush hour.
In a warning to motorists, Traffic Scotland reported: “Lane 2 of 2 is closed westbound after the Sheriffhall Roundabout due to a multi-vehicle RTC.”
Pictures from the live traffic cameras show long queues amid the travel chaos on the Bypass.
In an update at 5:15pm, Traffic Scotland confirmed the incident is not yet over.
They said: “Lane 2 of 2 remains closed westbound after the Sheriffhall Roundabout due to a multi-vehicle RTC.
“TRISS and emergency services are on scene and traffic is queuing back to Millerhill.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson:“Around 4.55pm on Thursday, 24 June, we received a report of a four-vehicle crash on the A720, Edinburgh by-pass at Sherriffhall roundabout.
