Cops probing attempted dog napping at popular Scots walking spot

Cops are probing an attempted dog napping in Glasgow yesterday afternoon.

Officers from Police Scotland were made aware of an incident at Snuff Mill Bridge in the city at around 2.50pm on Wednesday.

A post widely circulated on social media said a young girl walking a Labrador was targeted by a group of men but managed to run home.

It it thought four men in their twenties worked together to try and steal the pooch at the park entrance.

They were said to be wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

The young woman and her dog were not injured but have been left shaken by the attempted dog napping.

A Facebook post put up after the incident urged people to keep their dogs safe.

It said: "About 2.40pm today (Wednesday) 3/4 males working together attempted to steal a Labrador from a young girl at the entrance to the park @snuffmill bridge.

"Police have been contacted. Please keep your dogs safe.

"Males, late 20s, dark clothing, hood up. Grey car, smaller than transit & blue corsa type car involved."

Police are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of the attempted theft of a dog at Snuff Mill Bridge in Glasgow around 2.50pm on Wednesday, 24 February.

"The attempt was unsuccessful and both dog and owner were unharmed.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 1711 of 24 February."
