Cops probe 'unexplained' death in Hamilton street

Police were this week probing the death of a 59-year-old man in Hamilton.

Residents were becoming increasingly concerned by the constant police presence outside a home in Gordon Road, Udston.

Many contacted the Advertiser, saying a police vehicle had been situated outside the home for some days.

However, Police Scotland this week confirmed the police presence was due to an “unexplained” death in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Monday, January 20, 2020, a man was taken by ambulance from his home in Gordon Road, Hamilton, to the University Hospital Hairmyres for medical treatment.

“The 59-year-old died on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, and his death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death.”

Police officers stood down yesterday (Tuesday, January 28).
