Cops probe Hatton Garden-style attempted Post Office raid in East Kilbride

Police are probing a Hatton Garden-style attempted robbery in East Kilbride Village.

Crooks targeted the Stuart Street Post Office overnight into February 25 by breaking into the St Andrew’s Hospice charity shop next door and trying to cut through the adjoining wall with power tools.

The East Kilbride News understands the robbers fled the scene after being disturbed, leaving their tools behind.

The shop was forced to close for several days while investigations were carried out.

Police are now trawling through CCTV in a bid to catch the culprits.

The raid mirrors the famous Hatton Garden heist – the largest burglary in English legal history.

The Hatton Garden heist was made into an ITV drama starring Timothy Spall and Geoff Bell (ITV)

It saw a gang of elderly crooks make off with £14million worth of jewellery and cash in a daring heist on a safety deposit vault in London’s Hatton Garden.

A police source told the News the EK break-in was a “professional operation”.

The Village Post Office and St Andrew’s Hospice said they would not comment while a police investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number PS-20200225-0715.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
