Cops probe Cumbernauld 'stabbing' after man left seriously injured

Cops have launched a probe after a man was allegedly stabbed last night in a Lanarkshire town.

Emergency services raced to Hornbeam Road in Cumbernauld after reports of a 27-year-old with serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital and his condition is described as "serious but stable".

Locals have said the man was stabbed.

The scene was cordoned off and officers were in the street for a number of hours.

Police have said they are still investigating the exact circumstances but say they are treating the incident as a "serious assault".

A spokeswoman said:“Around 7 pm on Saturday, 28 March, police received a report of a man with serious injuries in Hornbeam Road, Cumbernauld.

“On arrival they discovered a 27-year-old man with serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Monklands and District General Hospital where hospital staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident which police are treating as a serious assault.”

Locals are shocked at the incident, which came on the first weekend of the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

One wrote: "’I've lived just (there) for near on 50 years and never saw anything like that!"

Another wrote that she "couldn't look out window earlier without seeing the police" and had spotted a white forensics tent.
