Cops pelted with missiles as illegal rave with crowd of 300 people broken up in Huddersfield

Revellers pelted police with missles as they broke up an illegal rave attended by 300 people in Huddersfield.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police were called the party in Deighton on Saturday night.

When they tried to break it up and demand people go home, revellers started to throw missiles at them, Yorkshire Live reports.

Police seized the music equipment from the rave and forced everyone who had attended to leave the area.

When the officers shut down the party, they received a round of applause from outraged residents.

In a statement, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "On Saturday evening, officers deployed to an illegal rave that was taking place In Deighton, Huddersfield.

"When officers arrived there were around 300 persons present, many of whom were hostile and missiles were thrown at officers.

"The music was quickly turned off with the equipment seized and the attendees were dispersed from the area.

"No officers were injured and they were met with applause from residents in the area."

Under the current coronavirus restrictions in England, it is against the law for gatherings of more than 30 people to take place in private houses, gardens and outdoor spaces.

Illegal rave organisers could be slapped with a fine of up to £10,000.
