Cops: Man tries to kidnap teenage girl on Far South Side

Sept. 17--A man tried to lure a teenage girl into his car on the Far South Side on Tuesday morning, then followed her in his car after she got onto a CTA bus and tried again to have her get in his car, police said.

The 16-year-old girl was waiting for the bus about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 9400 block of South Stony Island Avenue when the man approached her, according to police.

The man smiled and motioned for the girl to come to his black Chevrolet Impala, according to a community alert issued Wednesday by Area South detectives.

The girl shook her head no and got on the bus, but after she got off the bus about 2 miles west, near 9500 S. Michigan Ave., and was walking north on Michigan, she saw the man's car again, police said.

As the girl got to the middle of the block, the man "appeared behind her, yelling 'come here," according to the alert.

The girl ran to school and reported what happened to police.

The attacker is described as a black man between the ages of 30 and 40, with a dark complexion. He stood about 5-foot-8 and had short black hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and dark blue jeans. His car was a late-model black Impala, police said.

Anyone with information about the man, who is wanted on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and child abduction, is asked to call Area South detectives at 312-747-8271 or email area2tips@chicagopolice.org.
