Cops make arrest and issue fine after Edinburgh gift shop "remains open"

Police have made an arrest and issued a fine after a gift shop allegedly broke lockdown rules by remaining open to sell non-essential items.

Officers were called to Neanie Scott on Edinburgh ’s Canongate at lunchtime on Saturday following reports of a “breach of coronavirus regulations”.

A 37-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with the offence.

Another 29-year-old man received a fixed penalty notice.

A video has since gone viral appearing to show police officers confronting the owner about the fact the family-run shop is open.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers attended at a shop on Canongate at 12pm on Saturday, 30 January, 2021, after reports of a breach of coronavirus regulations.

“A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged and another man, aged 29, received a fixed penalty notice.”

Neanie Scott declined to comment.
