Cops lock down Glasgow street after reports of alleged stabbing

Police have locked down a street in East End of Glasgow after reports of an alleged stabbing.

A 20-year-old man was seriously assaulted on Stamford Street at around 4.30am this morning.

He sustained injuries to his chest and abdomen.

Cops are currently standing guard outside a property on the street with locals reporting a heavy police presence in the area.

Police tape has been put in place and the scene has been cordoned off.

One resident told the Daily Record he believed a young man had been stabbed earlier this morning.

He said: "When I woke up this morning I saw a lot of police and lots of police activity. There's cops standing outside a house and I've heard a young guy was stabbed."

The alleged incident comes a month after an 18-year-old boy was killed after he was struck by a van in a nearby street.

Liam Hendry, died at the scene in Barrowfield Street in the early hours of Sunday September 9.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a serious assault in the Stamford Street area of Glasgow around 4.30am on Saturday, 19 October.

"A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with abdomen and chest injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0754 of 19 October.”
