Cops lock down Glasgow Parcelforce depot amid reports of 'suspicious package'

Emergency services have raced to a Scots Parcelforce depot after a suspicious package was found.

Police were called to the courier depot on Cambuslang Road, Glasgow, around 6.15am this morning after concerns were raised regarding a suspicious package.

Officers believe there is no wider risk to the public but emergency services remain on the scene probing the incident.

The Scottish Ambulance Service and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.15am on Wednesday, 9 June, officers were called to the Cambuslang Road area of Glasgow, following concern for a reported suspicious package.

"There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We remain in attendance alongside emergency service partners at an incident at a commercial depot in Cambuslang.

“Operations Control mobilised five appliances to the scene after the alarm was raised at 6.10am on Wednesday, June 9.”

A Parcelforce Worldwide spokesperson said: “Parcelforce Worldwide’s Glasgow depot was evacuated earlier today following the discovery of a parcel containing a potentially corrosive substance in one of our vehicles.

"Nobody was injured in the incident and our colleagues are now safely back in the building and operating as normal.

"The safety of our people and our customers is our utmost priority and so all precautions are being taken. We have been working closely with the emergency services and a specialist cleaning company.

"Investigations are ongoing.

"We apologise to our neighbours who will have been impacted this morning by the containment measures put in place.

"We are putting in place plans to ensure that we recover normal service as quickly as possible.”
