Cops lock down busy Aberdeen road for almost 10 hours amid ‘ongoing incident’

A busy road in Aberdeen has been closed for almost 10 hours after police were called to an ‘ongoing incident’ in the early hours.

Officers shut down Wellington Road at around 3.40am on Sunday, September 26, with a diversion put in place for motorists.

Pictures from the scene show s everal marked vehicles behind a large cordon and blue police warning signs.

Locals were also urged to stay away from the scene while officers carried out enquiries in the area.

The exact nature of the ongoing incident is not currently known.

A force spokesperson said: “Police Scotland would like to advise motorists that Wellington Road, Aberdeen is closed between Abbotswell road and Craigshaw road due to an ongoing incident.

“It’s requested that the area is avoided at this time.”

Meanwhile, a heavy police presence has also been reported in the nearby Bon Accord Terrace Gardens.

It is not currently known whether the two incidents are linked.
