Cops lays fake naka for bribe, arrested

MOHALI: In the first instance of the anti-corruption helpline launched by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann recently helping catch an offender in Mohali, a police constable posted with the police control room (PCR) was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 200 while setting up a fake check post in Kharar.

The action was taken after a video was posted on the helpline WhatsApp number late on Sunday evening, said SSP Vivek Sheel Soni, adding constable Harpreet Singh was suspended.

Singh, a resident of Khanpur, Kharar, laid a fake check post at Khanpur chowk and started checking vehicles. He allegedly demanded Rs 200 bribe from a cab driver after he failed to produce documents of the vehicle. The driver paid him. Kharar DSP Bikram Singh Brar said a passerby made a video of the cop accepting the money. The constable fled but was later caught.
