Cops launch manhunt after 'reckless and dangerous' fire attack destroys Glasgow shop

Cops have launched a manhunt after a "reckless and dangerous" fire attack which is believed to be targeted.

Emergency services raced to St Andrews Road, Pollokshields, after 3am this morning after a property was set on fire.

The Sugar Rush dessert shop and a car were destroyed in the blaze.

Fire crews were called to the scene just before 3am on Tuesday (Brickfield Community Group)

A white coloured vehicle reversed at speed into the glass front of premises.

Three men then got out of the car and set a fire within the building. It is believed they ran off from the scene to a waiting car nearby on St Andrews Road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service extinguished the blaze and no one was hurt during the incident.

Enquires are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detective Inspector Craig Warren of Glasgow CID said: “This was a reckless and dangerous act of wilful fireraising which thankfully has not resulted in anyone getting hurt.

“We believe this was a targeted attack and we are keen to trace those responsible as soon as possible.

“Three men were seen to run away from the incident to a waiting car and we are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time that this happened and saw anything which could help out investigations.

“Likewise, anyone who was driving in the area and had any dashcam footage which can help enquiries, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 0235 of 23 March.

Or alternatively to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
