Cops launch investigation after man assaulted in East Kilbride

Police were called to an East Kilbride street at the weekend after a 21-year-old man was assaulted.

Locals reported seeing police cars as well as an ambulance, police dogs and areas taped off at Franklin Place in Westwood on Friday evening shortly before 7pm.

The 21-year-old's injuries aren't understood to be serious.

One resident posted on social media: "What's going on?

"Helicopter been circling for ages now. A police car pulled into Ontario Park for a bit then left."

Another added: "Helicopter is circling over Falkland Drive. Hope they catch them."

A police spokesman said: "We received a report that a 21-year-old man had been injured at Franklin Place, East Kilbride, around 6.50pm on Friday, July 16.

"Officers attended and enquiries into the incident continue."
