Cops launch frantic search of River Clyde after man went missing overnight

A major search and rescue operation is underway for a man missing in the River Clyde.

Emergency services were called at around 7.05pm on Saturday following reports of a 44-year-old getting into difficulty.

Local residents reported a heavy presence of police vehicles near Strathclyde Path in Uddingston as searchers raced to the scene.

No trace of the man has been found and searchers remain in the area on Sunday morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.05pm on Saturday, 15 August, 2020, officers received a report of a 44-year-old man in difficulty in the River Clyde, near Strathclyde Path, Uddingston.

“Emergency services are in attendance and a search is currently underway.”
