Cops investigating alleged sexual assault of woman 'near running track' in Kirkintilloch

Police are probing the alleged sexual assault of a woman in Kirkintilloch .

The 35-year-old woman was reportedly attacked near a running track at the Merkland Outdoor Centre on Merkland Drive in the East Dunbartonshire town around 9pm on Sunday evening.

Officers swooped on the scene after being alerted to the alleged incident the following evening.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a sexual assault on a 35-year-old woman at around 9pm on Sunday.

"It was not reported to police until Monday evening. The investigation is still at early stage."
