Cops investigate series of armed robberies on North, Northwest Side

Dec. 29--Police continue to investigate eight separate armed robberies believed to be the work of the same attackers in the days before Christmas on the North and Northwest Sides.

No arrests have been made in the robberies since the latest one, which took place between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Dec. 23 or 24th in the 3600 block of West Berteau Avenue in the city's Albany Park neighborhood, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police.

They all happened in the same way -- victims walking on sidewalks in alleys or on the street were confronted by "multiple" attackers at least one brandishing a handgun who had jumped out a vehicle and demanded their property, Trainor said.

It was unclear what items they took.

Seven other attacks happened around the same time and area:

--3800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, Dec. 23 or Dec. 24 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--5400 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Dec. 23 or Dec. 24 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--4800 block of North Seeley Avenue, Dec. 23 or Dec. 24 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--6800 block of North Seeley Avenue, Dec. 23 or Dec. 24 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--5100 block of North Avers Avenue, Dec. 22 or Dec. 23 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--5300 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Dec. 22 or Dec. 23 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

--3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue, Dec. 22 or Dec. 23 between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

The assailants are all described as being African American men between the ages of 18 and 24 who are between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-11, weigh between 140 and 170 pounds, and have short hair and a light to medium complexion, said Trainor.

A further description of the suspects and the vehicle was not being disclosed by police, according to Trainor.

No one was injured during any of the attacks, according to Trainor, who added no new robberies have happened.

Anyone with information should contact Area North detectives, 312-744-8263.
