Cops investigate car firebombings at Gleneagles

Three cars were reduced to burnt-out shells in the early hours of Sunday at the luxury Gleneagles Resort near Aucterarder.

The apparently firebombed vehicles had been parked overnight in the car park outside the Glenmor Lodges at Gleneagles.

An Audi and a Range Rover, plus a third vehicle, were left as little more than charred shells in a blaze which fire service personnel were called to at 3.20am on Sunday morning.

The cars had been taken away by Monday morning, but police officers could still be seen combing the site.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently investigating following a report of three cars on fire in the Gleneagles area.

“The incident was reported around 3.20am on Sunday, January 12 and enquiries are ongoing.”

Fire crews took more than an hour to bring the blaze under control and afterwards the vehicle wrecks were examined by investigators.

A SFRS spokesperson added: “We sent one appliance and the fire was extinguished at 4.23am.”

Gleneagles has not issued any details as to who the cars belonged to or if any new security arrangements had been put in place after the attack.

The hotel’s communications manager said: “We cannot provide a comment while it is an ongoing investigation.”
