Cops in re-appeal over 'nasty' Paisley ATM mugging

Police are desperate to trace a violent mugger who battered and robbed a man as he lifted cash in Paisley.

Detectives leading the probe yesterday described the attack on the 59-year-old man as “nasty and unprovoked”.

They have released an image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries in to the shocking robbery, which happened in East Lane around 11.30pm on Friday, May 22.

It is understood the victim lifted cash from the ATM near Tesco when he was approached by a thug, who then battered him senseless.

The yob then removed the victim’s wallet and made off from the scene.

The badly-injured victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and received stitches to a laceration to his head.

Officers launched a major investigation into the mindless attack but have so far drawn a blank.

They released an image of a man they are keen to speak to in connection with the attack and have again appealed to members of the public to come forward if they recognise him.

The man in the images is described as being around 35 to 40 years old, of medium build, clean shaven, wearing dark clothing and carrying a holdall.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, appealed for anyone who recognises him to come forward.

He told The Express: “This was a really nasty and unprovoked assault on an innocent member of the public simply going about his business.

“He suffered a head injury as a result of the attack, which required hospital treatment.

“We believe the man in the CCTV image can help with our enquiries.”

He added: “If you recognise the man, please contact Paisley CID.

“We would like to hear from you if you have any other information in relation to this incident.”

Express readers with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
