A Thai security agency said yesterday mystery still shrouds the whereabouts of Low Taek Jho, a Malaysian businessman who was embroiled in the scandal-plagued 1MBD, a Malaysian state development fund in Thailand.
Wanlop Rugsanoh, secretary-general of the Office of the National Security Council, yesterday said the agency has yet to receive any report from Interpol asking Thai authorities to help locate Mr Low, who is believed to be hiding in Thailand.
Mr Low is said to be a close aide of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, a founder of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). He is also on a wanted list of the United States' Justice Ministry, as 1MBD also invested several billion US dollars there.
According to international news agencies, Mr Low disappeared in July 2016.
He has been reportedly living in China and Thailand, while his luxury yacht Equanimity has been moored in Thai waters since October 2016.
"So far, we have not received any report from Interpol. The NSC has to examine the issue first because we have not been informed of any information," Mr Wanlop said.
Several civil suits have also been brought against Mr Low.
