Cops hunt thief who robbed women in Edinburgh street

Police are appealing for witnesses after a women was robbed in Edinburgh.

The 41-year-old woman was walking on George Street at 5.30am on September 6, near the Bank of Scotland premises at the Frederick Street juction.

Cops say the male thief approached and "demanded her property" before grabbing the bag she was carrying, and fleeing westbound on George Street.

The suspect is described as white male aged between 18 and 22, at a height of about 5’6”, with brown hair.

He was wearing a dark zip up jacket, dark trousers and brown boots and spoke with a local Edinburgh accent.

Police say inquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect and urged anyone who saw a male acting suspiciously in the George Street area to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Lesley Robertson from the Violence Reduction Unit at Gayfield Police Station said: "Thankfully the victim was unhurt however was left badly shaken.

"We are now conducting various lines of inquiry to trace the suspect and anyone who was on George Street at the time and can help us identify this male should contact police immediately.”
