Officers said enquires, including a review of CCTV, are now underway.

Inspector Kayley Teasdale, from Johnstone, Renfrew and the villages community policing team, said it is likely the area would have been busy at the time and urged potential witnesses to come forward.

She said: “This was clearly a frightening incident for the victim and we are very keen to trace the person responsible.

“This incident took place in broad daylight and in a very public place.

“It happened at a time when, even during lockdown, it is likely people would have been around, either driving past or walking on foot.

“I would ask you to think back and consider if you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around that time.”
